AKIRA 2 XBOX MODCHIP V1.5 DIAGRAMS

NOTE: The following diagrams are for reference only, we do not take responsibility for damage to the console when using this document. We recommend getting a skilled technicial with some soldering knowledge to do the install. Please always keep the power supply disconnected and take great care and don't rush the installation.

LPC PIN HEADER INSTALL

Once the Motherboard has been removed you should have what looks like the picture below. The next part of the installation involves soldering a pin header in the LPC header (16 Pin Header). We have marked the header in blue on the picture below. If you have a very old mode console V1.0 the holes will be soldered, you will need some desolder braid to carefully remove the solder. All the models V1.1-V1.3 now have holes so the task is very simple.

LPC PIN HEADER INSTALL (2)

Now take the Pin Header socket provided with the chip and insert it into the LPC Header on the motherboard like the picture below. You will need to remove one of the pins so it fits in the socket so it aligns correctly. The pins will then only go in one direction, so be careful not to force the pins into the board.

LPC PIN HEADER INSTALL (3)

Now turn the board upside down, and you will see the pin header through the holes like below, please make sure the pin header is push all the way through and is level before moving on to soldering the header in place.

LPC PIN HEADER INSTALL (4)

Now with the board upside down, carefully solder in the socket using just a small amount of solder. We use a 20W soldering iron, hold the tip between the pin and the board for a couple of seconds, then apply the solder inbetween and the holes will fill up like below. Do not use too much solder, just enough to secure each pin. The soldering is very simple but if you do not feel confident then get someone with some good soldering experiance to to the install.

Test Rom Point Installation (d0 point)

With the board still on its underside (bottom) you need to solder a wire to the point marked 'D0' This is the D0 rom testpoint of the motherbaord and needs to be soldered to any Ground point on the xbox motherboard for the chip to function. The D0 point is in the same location on all xbox consoles V1.0-V1.5 and as it is a presoldered pad and very easy to solder. This way is far easier and much safer than soldering the D0 to the top of the board.

The picture below shows point D0 and the LPC Header so you can easy locate the D0 point. You can solder D0 to any ground point on the motherboard. (see next section for ground point)

Test Rom Point Installation (d0 point / ground)

Below you will see a picture of the nearest and easiest GROUND point to solder. Solder a wire from D0 to this ground point.

Placing Chip

Once the the Ground and D0 points are soldered together you can then place the motherboard back into the console and reassemble the unit. You can then place the chip on the pin header socket as shown below

THE FOLLOWING IS FOR 1.5 XBOX CONSOLES ONLY

Soldering Voltages (for 1.5 boards only)

On the latest consoles 1.5 there is no '3.3V power' or 'Ground' going to the LPC Header so no power is going to the modchip, so you have to solder two wires to the 3.3V and GND pads on the back of the akira 2. See below

The chip is now installed.
